eXludus Joins HP Multi-Core Optimization Program

eXludus has announced that it has joined the HP Multi-Core Optimization Program. System processor core counts, and associated parallel processing capacity, are increasing. However, most applications are serial designs not capable of effectively using this parallel computing capacity now available to them. Re-writing applications to take full advantage of today’s multi-core systems is a difficult, time-consuming and a costly process. This situation has created a major application performance challenge for the industry. eXludus’ MultiCore Optimizer software addresses the parallel processor/serial application disconnect by inserting an intelligent resource allocation middleware layer between the applications and the operating system that allows unmodified applications to better leverage multi-core system potential based on resource needs.

Kidaro Investor Looking for New Stars at SYS-CON's Virtualization & Cloud Computing Conference & Expo

While the hypervisor market is dominated by VMware and other large companies, Opus Capital believes that startup opportunities abound. For example, several companies have enjoyed some early successes in desktop virtualization. Since no dominant player has emerged, this market still shows plenty of promise due to the undisputable benefits of the approach. Security is another area of opportunity: as the numbers of virtual machines grow, so too do the concerns of security stakeholders. We believe that the rapid adoption of EC2, and other cloud computing environments, presents prospects for innovation as well.

Today’s businesses can no longer afford to have essential business content trapped in separate, incompatible repositories. They want an interoperable interface for their repositories that allows them to reuse and share business content easily. To address this need, EMC, IBM, and Microsoft have led the charge together to draft a Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification. Alfresco, Open Text, Oracle, and SAP also collaborated on this work. This draft specification was recently submitted to OASIS for standardization. CMIS consists of a set of web services that an application can use to query, access, and manipulate content that are stored in a compliant content management system. The specification defines a domain model and two protocol bindings: a SOAP/WSDL binding and a REST/Atom binding.

Virtualization Expo Compliance Session on November 19-21, in San Jose, California

Virtualization is a good idea. Losing best-practices in security and compliance in the move from P to V is not. While virtualization presents enormous opportunities for enhanced operational efficiencies and improved ROI , migration from physical to virtual will also more than likely create gaps in compliance. Long-established controls and processes in place for the physical IT infrastructure are inadequate to address the special architecture of the virtual platform. Auditors are becoming increasingly educated about these issues, and stepping up their vigilance. Customers of virtualization platforms need to ensure that they are not inadvertently out of compliance.

Endpoint Virtualization at Virtualization Conference & Expo, Nov. 19-21, in San Jose, CA

Application virtualization technology is changing the way software is managed, delivered, and consumed at the endpoint. Indeed, bringing virtualization to the endpoint offers IT a natural migration path toward a more fluid computing environment—one that effectively balances the often conflicting trade-offs between security and flexibility. The benefits of attending this session are that delegates will: Gain perspective on how virtualization can improve management, increase security, and deliver greater performance and flexibility at the endpoint by de-coupling an IT task from its underlying hardware.

Preparing Your Enterprise for Virtualization

Virtualization carries the promises of flexibility, lower costs, ease of deployment and simplified server management. However, when condensing the physical resources of your enterprise, are you considering how to make applications easily accessible to the growing number of remote users within your enterprise? IT managers rushing toward virtualization within the data center are finding that virtualization and consolidation do not address remote access performance issues experienced by remote branch users in today's distributed enterprises.

Virtualization Technologies and the Manageability Challenge

Virtualization technologies are being adopted in every corner of the enterprise, from server hardware to user data. In general, virtualization increases flexibility, but complicates manageability, security and access. Traditional management suites, originally designed for physical assets, tend to be less effective in virtual environments and with virtual assets. Add the growing trend toward consumerization in the enterprise, and the challenges grow. A new approach to endpoint management is required, one that recognizes that the end-user environment is of primary concern, not the underlying infrastructure, be it physical or virtual. Streaming is an established virtualization technology that can provide both the user context and the just-in-time endpoint configuration required to effectively and efficiently secure and manage the endpoints.
