Microsoft released Windows 7 Build 7600 to manufacturing Wednesday afternoon, a day ahead of its numbers.
Windows Server 2008 RC2 also RTM’d.
Microsoft said the gold code will start going out to OEMs in a couple of days. It’s sticking with October 22 as the date for general availability although it would seem Microsoft could bring it in earlier than that now.
However, it says volume licensees with existing Software Assurance licenses will be able to start downloading the code in English on August 7 via the Volume License Service Center (VLSC). It’s a little vague on when they can get other languages.
Volume licensees without a SA license can start buying it through volume licensing September 1, as previously announced.
IT Professionals with TechNet subscription can get it in English on August 6. Ditto developers with MSDN subscriptions.
ISVs and IHVs will be able to download the code at Microsoft Connect or MSDN on August 6.
Gold and Certified members of Microsoft’s Partner Program will be able to download it in English through the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) portal on August 16. By October 1, the other languages are supposed to be available.
Microsoft Action Pack subscribers will be able to download it in English starting August 23 and in other languages October 1.
Microsoft also confirmed reports of a Family Pack that will let consumers install Windows 7 Home Premium on three machines.
