Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Sell Out Success of Social Networking Workshop
NSDesign and the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce teamed up to help companies take advantage of social networking.

ORGANISERS of a social networking workshop for businesses have been so overwhelmed by the response they have had to arrange another event.

NSDesign and the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce teamed up to help companies take advantage of social networking.

The “Embrace the Space – Social Networking for Businesses” event on Friday September 18th sold out with over 20 businesses signed up to take part.

Gary Ennis, Managing Director of NSDesign, an award-winning Glasgow Web Design company, said:

“I am a long time devotee of Twitter and other social networking sites for business purposes and in discussion with the Chamber of Commerce we thought it would be a good idea to arrange a workshop for local firms to see how they could benefit.

“We knew that there would be some interest in those kind of workshops but had no idea that we would get such a good response.

“From national telecoms and insurance giants to local farmers and pizza companies, a clever Twitter or Facebook campaign can help improve sales, boost your online profile, deliver first class customer service and a whole lot more.

“It’s not just the big companies with millions to spend on PR that are getting results from Twitter – local companies are benefiting too, using it to engage directly with their audience on a more personal level yet still measure results.

“The workshops aim to guide people through the different kinds of digital marketing that are available and explain the pros and cons of social networking sites and how they can be of benefit to businesses.”

Laura Mills, from Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, said:

“We are absolutely delighted at the response we have had – clearly this has sparked a real interest in people.  I think that due to the economic downturn businesses are looking for as many ways as they can to increase revenue and social networking is something which could be beneficial for the company.”

Places are now available on the second workshop which will be held on Friday September 25th from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

Gary added:

“With an estimated 18 million Twitter users by 2010, and a staggering 200 million current active Facebook users, businesses really cannot afford not to dip their toe into the social media pool.”
