We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
What is really important to you? It is displayed by what you DO.
Tuesday of this week, I had the extraordinary pleasure of speaking for the Prosperity Series in Memphis, Tennessee.
The brainchild of legendary speaker, #1 New York Times bestselling author, and fellow member of Speakers Roundtable, Don Hutson, almost 200 people gathered at the Botanical Gardens for the program on “Collapse of Distinction.”
For about 2 and 1/2 hours, I spoke on creating differentiation and moving your business to stand out and move up while your competition fails. And, somewhere during the presentation, something very powerful struck me.
We have been whining and howling about a recession in this country. Michael Moore said on Larry King this week that “Capitalism has proven that it fails.”
Yet, 200 people of all ages from diverse backgrounds and industries in one American city gathered to share ideas, learn, and expand their thinking.
They proved that the system can…and DOES…work. Yet, they also were living, breathing examples of something we all need to observe and implement.
There is a rare quality that unites all successful individuals, regardless of the direction of their efforts.
Successful people become achievers because they take action upon a personal commitment to improve.
What makes 200 people come out, sit and listen to a speaker, take notes, make plans, ask questions, and set goals? It’s because they are taking the action necessary to fulfill the commitment they have made to themselves and others to improve their lives and their businesses.
I’m certain that out of the over one million people in the Memphis area, there are more than 200 who need to grow personally and professionally. However, there ARE a couple of hundred folks with whom I’m now acquainted that I am positive are on their way to enhanced achievement.
And, it’s NOT because they made the commitment — it’s because they are taking ACTION on the commitment!
Signing up for the series doesn’t grow your success! It’s getting in your car, driving to the Botanical Gardens, taking notes, meeting people, setting goals — when you could have been at home watching Sports Center, instead.
Will you be among the elite who succeed — or continue to build upon the success you’ve already attained — in the future?
I believe it will depend, most importantly, on this basic aspect: Will you display the rare quality that unites all achievers? Will you take action upon a commitment to yourself to grow and improve?
