FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- October is breast cancer awareness month, and each day many breast cancer survivors are reminded of their painful ordeal when they look in the mirror and see surgical scars left as a by-product of their quest to heal. That doesn't mean they have to live with these scars forever.
Dr. Aguilera at the Shino Bay Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Institute performs laser scar revision using multiple laser wavelengths to improve or reduce the appearance of scars resulting from most surgeries or accidents. "We can prevent new scars from forming as well as remove the itching and burning of recent scars by breaking down the collagen and scar tissue to return the skin to normal color and texture," explains Dr. Aguilera, Board certified Dermatologist and Dermatologic Surgeon and Medical Director of the Shino Bay Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Institute.
Laser scar revision at Shino Bay Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Institute can be performed using a variety of methods. "Our office is equipped with state-of-the art equipment, this allows us to customize treatments for our patients using the right technology for their specific needs," says Rich Goren, CEO, Shino Bay Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Institute.
The method of treatment should be based on the type of scar and the patient's preference for treatment. Some lasers can ablate the top layers of skin and expose new skin which heals over time to minimize the appearance of the scar. Other lasers target beneath the scar to stimulate the growth of new collagen, correcting scars from the inside out. Treatments usually take only minutes with minimal to no discomfort.
"For many patients, dealing with the scars left from mastectomy, lumpectomy or overall breast reconstruction affects their self-esteem. These scars are both emotional and physical. By reducing and often removing these scars I am so happy to be able to make a difference in my patients' lives, it is some of the most rewarding work I do," says Dr. Aguilera.
