Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
IBM says it's putting Notes and Domino collaboration software on mobile and web-connected devices such as the iPhone, Nokia smartphones, thin clients, laptops and desktops used to access corporate applications and business processes.
In search of market share it will make Domino Designer tools available for free.
Domino's automatic synching for e-mail, contacts and calendar data now reaches the iPhone.
The new features, which include push e-mail, enable iPhone users to work off-line and IBM says confidential data can be erased remotely if an iPhone is lost or stolen.
iPhone users can also take advantage of a corporate directory look-up feature that helps them find contact information behind their company firewall.
Updates for Nokia's Symbian platform include remote wipe, device lock, password management and external calendar integration.
The IBM software provides all of these capabilities for Windows Mobile devices as well.
Notes and Domino now support most smartphones.
IBM says several hundred organizations have tested the new 8.5.1 version of Notes during the past few months.
