Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Mimosa NearPoint for SharePoint Named by InfoWorld
Mimosa NearPoint for SharePoint Next-Generation Archiving Solution Delivers Continuous Data Capture

By: Joe Austin
Oct. 15, 2009 08:34 AM

Mimosa Systems announced that InfoWorld has identified Mimosa NearPointTM as a key recovery and archiving solution for companies that need long-term data protection, retention management and eDiscovery for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.

In his October 7, 2009 article, “Don't be caught without a SharePoint recovery solution,” Peter Bruzzese comments, “Like Public Folders for Exchange, SharePoint has become a dumping ground for all sorts of content. And it must be protected… SharePoint has a built-in backup utility, but it has limitations, especially around recovery.”

His article continues to explore options between Microsoft's built-in utilities for SharePoint and System Center Data Protection Manager (SC DPM). He states that if a company’s SharePoint backup and recovery needs go beyond what the built-in tools provide including STSAdm, Web-based Central Administration backup and restore, SharePoint Designer, or SC DPM then third-party tools need to be considered.

“One tool I've had a chance to work with is Mimosa NearPoint, which provides continuous data capture, immediate recovery of items and sites (without the need for a recovery farm), eDiscovery and retention management, and single-instance storage,” added Bruzzese.

Mimosa NearPoint provides a holistic solution to manage and protect SharePoint Server data with integrated recovery and archiving capabilities, while maintaining easy end-user access to information, or advanced eDiscovery workflow to manage legal holds. In addition, Mimosa NearPoint offers the most comprehensive SharePoint Server data capture available.

Customers can capture all content types and associated metadata and attachments, perform continuous capture via Change Notification, and preserve the relationships between sites and content. NearPoint also provides full-text indexing and global single-instance storage on all archived content. This content can then be optionally offloaded from SharePoint Server to enable storage cost savings while maintaining seamless end-user access via stubbing. Mimosa NearPoint also manages the retention and disposition of SharePoint Server content across the archive in accordance with records management policies.

“As identified by Peter Bruzzese in his InfoWorld article, SharePoint data is growing at an incredible pace and it’s critical for organizations to build a solid data protection and archiving strategy for this increasingly vital platform for corporate records,” said T.M. Ravi, CEO, Mimosa Systems. “Mimosa has built NearPoint to be a unified archiving solution for the comprehensive protection, retention, eDiscovery and storage management of Exchange, files and now, SharePoint. As a result, companies can simplify their data retention strategies while assuring compliance and litigation readiness for their growing volumes of SharePoint data.”
