Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
Last month's 2nd International SOA Symposium was a good event, or so I heard. I was there but didn't get a chance to attend any of the sessions due to the fact that I became immersed in a relentless series of SOA Manifesto working group sessions. But the end-result was worth the sacrifice. Myself, along with 16 other members, ended up producing a concise manifesto declaration for SOA and service orientation that I hope will help contribute some clarity and direction to the community.
The announcement of the SOA Manifesto was an appropriate conclusion to an event dedicated to the next generation of service-oriented computing. More so than ever before, the program agenda was focused on proven practices dealing with real world challenges and modern technologies for building and scaling complex services-based solutions.
Of course my favorite part of the show was the "Exorcising the Evil SOA" session I did together with Anne Thomas Manes. With the help of local actors and various sound and lighting effects, Anne, myself and over 120 attendees chanted together repeatedly to purge the industry, once and for all, of the "Evil SOA". This allowed us to be visited by the "Good SOA" whom we interviewed for the remainder of the session.
Photos from the symposium have been posted to the event site. Presentation files from all speakers are coming soon.
