Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

ONDAS Media and Jazz FM to Cooperate for European Satellite Radio Content

By: PR Newswire
Nov. 17, 2009 04:01 AM

MADRID, November 17 /PRNewswire/ -- ONDAS Media S.A., the satellite radio company for Europe, today announced it has teamed up with Jazz FM - the UK's interactive home of jazz - in a content cooperation agreement. The partnership will see distribution of Jazz FM's content on the ONDAS Media digital satellite radio platform to be broadcast across the internationally recognized borders of 27 European countries.

"Jazz FM has half a million UK listeners," confirms Dave Krueger, CEO of ONDAS Media. "Crucially, Jazz FM is mainly available on DAB radio, so we know that the listeners interested in this music genre are discriminating, demand superb quality, and have already purchased a DAB radio to ensure they can listen to their preferred content. Therefore, this affluent and discerning demographic is a hugely attractive proposition for pay radio."

"If Jazz FM is as popular in the 27 countries in Europe as it is in the UK, this partnership could potentially result in several million subscribers," says Richard Wheatly, Chief Executive, Jazz FM. "ONDAS Media's research has already confirmed that there is a significant interest in Jazz throughout Europe and our offering is an excellent example of content which can be commercialized on a mainstream basis. We are excited to partner with ONDAS Media to expand our market significantly, allowing new listeners to enjoy Jazz FM's high-quality content, in a superb digital quality format wherever they live, work or travel in Europe."

Jazz FM currently broadcasts a broad range of jazz, soul, funk and blues. As well as broadcasting the main popular Jazz FM channel, the agreement will see the two organizations cooperate to explore the viability of creating additional specialist radio channels with tailored content, as well as working together in relation to sample radio programming content for ONDAS' test and demonstration projects in Munich and Paris in 2010.

Through a fully integrated, digital satellite transmission network, ONDAS will broadcast its multi-lingual radio, music, video and data services directly to European consumers in their automobiles, trucks, homes, offices and to their mobile and portable devices. It will provide digital entertainment to 250 million vehicles and up to 500 million European inhabitants on the move 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through more than 150 channels of proprietary and re-distributed music, sports, news, weather, traffic and special interest programming in all the key European languages.

ONDAS Media has commercial satellite radio installation agreements already in place with leading vehicle manufacturers including Renault, Nissan and BMW which will allow consumers to listen to the extensive variety that the digital satellite radio platform promises, following its full service launch anticipated in 2012.
