Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
WIRED magazine today announced that American Express (www.americanexpress.com)
and Chevy (chevy.com/camaro) are presenting sponsors of the WIRED Store,
the magazine’s fifth annual marquee gallery-meets-retail experience. A
launching pad for new technology and cutting-edge products as well as a
showcase for inspired programming, the WIRED Store brings the varied and
vibrant pages of WIRED to life. The WIRED Store, which serves as THE
holiday destination for the WIRED set, will open its doors for six weeks
this holiday season.
For the first time this year, the WIRED Store will feature a creative
collaboration with international recording artist Moby. On a
one-of-a-kind interactive mural, Moby combines his playful artwork with
cutting-edge electric paint that comes to life when touched. This is a
breakthrough technology that uses conductive inks to replace wires, heat
sources, speakers, lights, power sources, switches, buttons and sensors,
making technology as thin and virtually weightless as a layer of ink.
Moby will also perform a special DJ set at the opening night party on
November 20, 2009.
This year's WIRED Store will also debut the One WIRED Wish program,
featuring celebrities such as Dave Eggers, Arianna Huffington, Joel
McHale, Rachel Zoe, Molly Sims, Yves Béhar, Mischa Barton and others
sharing their One WIRED Wish for the holidays — from the latest e-reader
to ocean preservation. WIRED Store visitors can enter their One WIRED
Wish for the holidays at wired.com/wiredstore to be automatically
entered to win a $10,000 prize package from the WIRED Store.
The all new Chevy Camaro will be showcased at the WIRED Store. It was
developed by an international team of designers and engineers with
concept-car styling, the latest technology, and a 304 HP V6 with an EPA
estimated 29 MPG highway.
“We’re excited to partner with American Express and Chevy Camaro at this
year’s WIRED Store,” said Howard Mittman, Publisher of WIRED. “Working
with these cutting-edge brands helps us showcase the latest in design,
innovation, and smart products, all in an interactive gallery-like
environment.”
The WIRED Store will feature more products than ever before — more than
250 items, including the latest televisions, computers (including Acer’s
new 3D laptop), cell phones, active gear, home goods, clothing,
children’s toys and games, the Camaro, an electric motorcycle, a custom
made WIRED Trek Bike and more. In addition, the WIRED Store will host a
range of events weekly, including chef demos and wine tastings in the
WIRED Café, Geek Dad Saturdays, Game Day Sundays, a green section
curated by Adrian Grenier and Peter Glatzer of SHFT.COM, and a gaming
area curated by professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. WIRED Store
visitors are invited to test products, attend events, and purchase
featured products online at http://www.wired.com/wiredstore
beginning November 21, 2009.
The WIRED Store is located at 415 West 13th Street, between 9th Avenue
and Washington Street in Manhattan’s Meatpacking/Highline District. The
Store will be open to the public from November 21, 2009 through December
27, 2009, from 12pm to 9pm Wednesdays through Sundays (the Store is
closed Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas Day).
