We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
I hadn’t given it much thought until today, but every comment my blog has gotten – I haven’t received an email about. I double-checked the configuration of everything and couldn’t find a problem. I decided to write a test php script to just invoke the mail() function to see if there was something wordpress related, but all the tests returned an a-okay. The problem is – I still wasn’t receiving the emails! I broke down and started Googling the issue and unfortunately came up with nothing. However, I did stumble across a plug-in that overrides the wp_mail function to use SMTP instead of the mail() command. I thought I’d give it a try, so I downloaded and installed it. There was a little configuration that needed done after it was activated, but nothing major; just plugging in SMTP values. The plug-in gives you the ability to send a test email from the settings page, so I tried it out and a few seconds later I received an email in my account.
If you are in need of such a plug-in or just want to give it a shot, its called WP-Mail-SMTP and works very nicely.
Note: It did say that it wasn’t tested with my version of wordpress, but it worked just fine.
