Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Macworld 2010 Announces New Product Launches

By: Business Wire
Feb. 3, 2010 01:01 PM

Dozens of companies will be making new product announcements and launches next week at Macworld 2010, IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2010, announced today. Many of these products are highlighted in Macworld’s unique First Looks program, designed to make finding and test-driving the latest products easy for attendees. The First Looks program highlights the latest innovations for the Mac, iPhone, and iPod platforms, and can be seen only at Macworld 2010 from February 9-13, 2010, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Macworld 2010 will see the introduction of exciting new products such as: a tool that diagnosis your car’s potential repair problems; gloves that mimic human touch and allow you to use your iPhone in harsh weather; a shoulder/hip bag with integrated controls with an interface to operate iPods or iPhones; a paper scanner that sends documents and photos directly to popular desktop and web apps; a tactical keypad that allows iPhone users to feel key locations and increase typing speed by eliminating miss hits; and, the world’s smallest 2.5” portable USB hard drive that lets you back up your laptop on-the-go.

Highlights of this year’s First Looks participants include:

CarMD.com Corp (Booth #766): CarMD.com Corp will introduce the CarMD® Handheld Device & Mac/PC Software System, a personal diagnostic tool that provides drivers with a fast and easy-to-use analysis of their car’s health. CarMD will catch problems before they cost big bucks, double-check repair costs, monitor and reduce emissions and more. The software included with CarMD runs on a wide range of operating systems, including Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Apparent (Special Interest Pavilions): Apparent will introduce Doxie, a smart, modern paper scanner that sends documents and photos directly to popular desktop and web apps like Flickr, Google Docs, iPhoto, Picnik, Tumblr and Twitter. Doxie is portable, USB powered and features an intuitive, one-button design that makes scanning and sharing paper easy – just connect to any PC or Mac, launch the Doxie app and scan anything in seconds.

BudSock (Booth# 766 in the Digital / Multimedia SIP): BudSock will introduce the BudSock, a simple, eco-friendly design that allows you to stow away your earbuds in your pocket, your bag, or any place you’d like without them getting tangled. It is easy to use, weightless, bulkless and saves you time and hassle. The earth-friendly BudSocks contain no plastic, they are made of brass with the surface electroplated in silver and the fabric used for the BudSock is 100 percent organic cotton.

Shure Incorporated (Booth #1459): Shure will introduce the SE115m+ Sound Isolating Headset with Remote + Mic, which combines the professional audio performance and sound isolation of Shure's SE115 Earphones with the addition of an integrated three-button remote and microphone for the iPhone 3GS and iPod. The three-button remote allows users to adjust the volume, control music and video playback, record voice memos and answer or end calls without having to remove their earphones.

SMART Technologies (Booth # 845): SMART Technologies will introduce SMART Notebook SE (Student Edition) Mac, created specifically to meet the needs of tech-savvy students by providing them with a learning tool that complements the way they think and organize. The student edition is compatible with the Mac version of SMART Notebook software, and is available on a convenient 2 GB USB silicon bracelet which makes it easy for students to access on any computer, to take notes, complete assignments and save work to a single, portable USB key.

Blue Microphones (Booth #960): Blue Microphones will be previewing the next generation of their award winning portable mic – Mikey, now compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch, with improved circuitry for superior recording at higher volumes. Mikey now features a 3.5mm line-input for direct recording of other sound sources, along with a USB pass-thru connection for simultaneous charging and syncing.
