PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 02/10/10 -- Solar Energy Initiatives, Inc.
(OTCBB: SNRY), with operating divisions in solar project development,
distribution and workforce training, today made an announcement with the
State of South Carolina and the North Eastern Strategic Alliance (NESA) to
drive job creation and economic development through solar energy. The first
phase of the project involves the configuration of the 6,000-square-foot
solar academy training center. Construction is expected to begin in the
spring of 2010 with a ground-breaking ceremony to be announced at a future
date. Solar Energy Initiatives will locate new facilities in Williamsburg
County, creating a solar technology campus. The goal is to leverage the
Port of Charleston and develop a showcase for solar technology, training,
distribution and logistics, making Williamsburg County the solar capitol of
the east coast.
"We are very excited about our announcement with the State of South
Carolina and the next stage of growth for Solar Energy Initiatives," said
David Fann, Chief Executive Officer of Solar Energy Initiatives. "With this
commitment from the Department of Commerce and Williamsburg County, we will
be creating a solar showcase for South Carolina, aiding the State's effort
to develop jobs and businesses linked to the fast-growing solar economy.
This project focuses our Renew the Nation campaign at the Regional level,
continuing our mission of economic development for small businesses in the
Construction and the Trades. We expect Renew South Carolina to generate
over 200 jobs while laying the ground work for hundreds more as South
Carolina establishes itself in the solar marketplace."
With over 200,000 square feet of building space, the Company plans on
starting a solar academy to train new solar technicians and a distribution
center for solar products. The location will also serve as a demonstration
center for all types of solar installations including solar thermal (hot
water) and solar photovoltaic rooftop and ground-mount systems. Finally,
the plan includes co-locating major manufacturers of solar products used in
residential and commercial applications.
"South Carolina's business-friendly climate, skilled workforce and strong
market access continues to attract new opportunities to our state, and
today's announcement is another indication that South Carolina has laid the
groundwork necessary to attract investment from innovative and emerging
industries," said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce of South Carolina.
Solar Energy Initiatives' decision to expand in South Carolina came via a
coalition of public and private sector interests working with the NESA, a
nine-county regional economic development group.
"We are pleased to welcome Solar Energy Initiatives, Inc. to the NESA
Region. The partnership that the company has formed with the State will
initially create over 200 much-needed jobs and is poised to have an even
greater impact on not only the State but the Region as this industry is
established in South Carolina," said Jeff McKay, NESA Executive Director.
Solar Energy Initiatives is implementing a multi-phase development plan,
engaging Capital Connections and working closely with Williamsburg County
to make this possible.
"Today's announcement is a testament to many months of hard work and
collaborative effort dedicated to the worthy cause of recruiting green
industries and bringing needed jobs to the State of South Carolina. We
will continue promoting solid partnerships between the private and public
sector while strengthening value and lasting relationships between Solar
Energy Initiatives and the State resulting in numerous victories for the
citizens of South Carolina," commented John Y. McGill Jr. of Capitol
Connections.
