Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica, New Low-Cost Airline in Costa Rica, Signs with RASSA
RASSA, a leading provider of new generation Web-based airline reservations solutions, signs agreement with Aeropostal Alas de Ce

By: PR Newswire
Oct. 3, 2005 11:50 AM

SANTIAGO, Chile, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- RASSA Holdings Limitada ("RASSA"), an established provider of new sales, services and marketing solutions to airlines, recently signed Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica to use R@N.One, its comprehensive and modularized Internet-based passenger service system. Functional modules of the R@N.One system include flight information, fares management, seat inventory control, reservations, sales, ticketing, check-in, as well as unique sales distribution and management reports. With this agreement, RASSA secures another low-cost airline customer in the region.

Jose Luis Tolosa, founding partner and Chief Sales Officer of RASSA, said, "We have been working closely with Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica and welcome it as our newest client in Latin America. Its low-cost model is a clear sign of Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica's commitment to the future of commercial aviation and positions the airline to take a leading role in the region. RASSA will provide Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica on an exclusive basis with state-of-the-art technology, a large team of very talented airline industry and leading-edge technology experts and a reservations system designed to ensure its success."

Rodrigo Troyo, General Manager of Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica, emphasized that "our company is expected to commence operations in October of this year, flying DC9s and MD82/83s within Central America, and to South America and the Caribbean. In the future, we also plan to fly to North America. R@N.One is considered to be instrumental in achieving our goals, enabling us to build an efficient and cost-effective operation where distribution costs are kept very low and revenue efficiencies maximized, especially considering the very high prices of fuel."

R@N.One allows airlines to: reduce distribution costs through direct Internet connectivity, eliminating costly communications expenses; gain efficiencies in serving passengers through a user-friendly point-and-click interface; and allow airline management real-time access to all sales and operational activities within the system, as business occurs. This eliminates the traditional 24-hour waiting periods for information reports.

Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica S.A. was founded in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2003. Its principal operations are at Juan Santamaria International Airport, out of which it will operate a fleet of DC9s and MD82/83s. Aeropostal Alas de Centroamerica expects to begin operations in October 2005.

RASSA is a company sponsored by Lockheed Martin Corporation with development in Buenos Aires, Argentina and other offices in Santiago, Chile and Atlanta, Georgia.
