Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

More Than 9,000 Fans Cheered for the Mexican National Team at the T-Mobile World Cup Viewing Party
T-Mobile Provided Fans With the Chance to Cheer on Their Team Through a Live Public Viewing of the Much-Anticipated Opening Match of Mexico v. South Africa on Univision

BELLEVUE, Wash., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- On the morning of June 11, for the opening World Cup match, more than 9,000 Mexican National Team fans attended the public viewing party at Plaza Mexico in Lynwood, Calif., hosted by T-Mobile USA, Inc. Fans flocked from all over Southern California to attend the event, which featured three jumbo high definition screens placed throughout the plaza, live music and entertainment, games, prizes, giveaways and complimentary food and refreshments. In addition, T-Mobile customers received access to a VIP viewing area during the telecast of the game on Univision's high definition broadcast.

The T-Mobile viewing party of the World Cup inaugural match provided the Mexican National Team fan-base living in Southern California with a gathering experience for their friends and family, similar to those in Mexico.

"Soccer is the most popular sport in the world," said Mark Stockdale, director of Hispanic marketing for T-Mobile USA. "This year's opening match provided the perfect opportunity for T-Mobile to give Southern California Mexican National Team soccer enthusiasts and their families the chance to experience the action, while cheering alongside thousands of fellow fans."

Fans began gathering at 4am to reserve seats on the Plaza Mexico floor, with the crowd overflowing into the roundabout, onto the second floor balconies and even climbing the Angel of Independence statue to get a good look at the giant screens. Mexican flags waved high above the cheering crowds as they rooted for the Mexican National Team, breaking out into songs and chants throughout the game.

MTV Tr3s star Jazmin Lopez hosted the viewing party, kicking off the event by singing the Mexico national anthem prior to the opening match coin-toss. TV personality Mario Lopez stopped by to cheer on Mexican National Team for the first half of the match. Lynwood Mayor Maria Teresa Santillan was also on-hand to help celebrate. Popular regional Mexican musical acts Voz de Mando and El Potro de Sinaloa performed for the packed plaza and kept the crowd cheering through halftime and KLVE's Omar Velasco was on-hand, broadcasting live from the event.

Taco trucks lined the exits to Plaza Mexico and patrons snacked on free food and drinks at the conclusion of the tied match. Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez kept the energy level high and the Futboleros soccer troop entertained the crowd with soccer tricks and stunts throughout the afternoon.
