CHICAGO, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Workforce Management, the leading business publication for workforce management and human resources professionals, announced it has hired Ron Alsop as editor.

A longtime editor and columnist at the Wall Street Journal, Alsop is the author of eight books, including his latest, The Trophy Kids Grow Up: How the Millennial Generation Is Shaking Up the Workplace. He also serves as a public speaker and consultant on the Millennial generation, corporate recruiting, career development, corporate reputation and business education trends.

"We are delighted to welcome Ron Alsop to Workforce Management," said Publisher and Vice President Todd Johnson. "As a broad-based, seasoned editor, Ron has the experience to sustain our position as the leading source of news and information for human resource leaders, while his significant work covering workforce management trends and issues further strengthens our expertise in the field."

"I am very excited to be joining Workforce Management at such a dynamic time for workplace managers," Alsop said. "From generational and diversity issues to new technology and unprecedented global competition, corporate executives and HR leaders face significant challenges in recruiting and managing talent. I believe they will continue to benefit enormously from Workforce Management's cutting-edge insights about workplace issues, trends and best practices."

In addition to naming Alsop to Workforce Management's top editor position, the publication has also promoted Rick Bell to managing editor and Ed Frauenheim to senior editor.

Ron Alsop is a veteran journalist with broad and deep experience in business journalism, daily news operations, special projects and specialty book publishing. While at the Wall Street Journal, he served as the marketing columnist and business-education columnist. He was also editor of the Journal's Marketplace page and its annual rankings of MBA programs and corporate reputation. He is interviewed frequently about the Millennial generation by such media outlets as The New York Times, The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, CBS Evening News and The Huffington Post.

Alsop's other books include The 18 Immutable Laws of Corporate Reputation: Creating, Protecting, and Repairing Your Most Valuable Asset and The Wall Street Journal Guide to the Top Business Schools.

As managing editor, Rick Bell is responsible for the day-to-day news operations of the magazine and Workforce.com's online content. He previously served as senior editor/news. Before joining Workforce Management in 2006, Bell was managing editor of the San Diego Business Journal. He has also served as zone editor for the North County Times, civilian news editor for the Navy Compass and editor of the Pomerado Newspaper Group. Bell has won dozens of professional awards from organizations including the San Diego Press Club and the Society of Professional Journalists. He moves with Workforce Management to its new headquarters in Chicago in July 2010.

Workforce Management Senior Editor Ed Frauenheim covers HR technology, talent management and business strategy for C-level readers. Prior to being named senior editor, he served as senior writer for the publication. Frauenheim also writes the Global Work Watch blog, which frequently analyzes social safety nets around the world, and has written extensively about offshoring and outsourcing. Before joining Workforce Management in 2005, Frauenheim was with technology media firm CNET Networks and the Oakland Tribune chain of newspapers. His stories have earned honors from the AP News Executive Council, SPJ and the American Society of Business Publication Editors. He is based in the publication's San Francisco office.
