Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
Singapore, June 15, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - The Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) will be at CommunicAsia 2010 to showcase more than ten innovative market-ready technologies, from 15 to 18 June 2010 at Singapore Expo Hall 3, Booth 3D1-01.
Amongst the technologies making their debut at the mega ICT event are a group of personal 3D entertainment technologies developed by researchers from A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R). These technologies can be integrated into a number of products and services that will further the creation and enjoyment of 3D in the home. The Dance! 3D, for example, simulates a dance floor environment and allows a player to have a natural and intuitive live dance interaction with customisable virtual characters. Meanwhile, the 3D Face Modelling Web service takes a 2-dimensional frontal portrait image and instantaneously processes it into a full 3-dimensional face object file that can be incorporated into games, virtual worlds, and other applications involving photo-realistic human avatars.
These are just two of the many equally impactful A*STAR's technologies that will be showcased at CommunicAsia 2010. Exploit Technologies, the commercialisation arm of A*STAR, will be available onsite to discussion collaboration and licensing opportunities.
Mr Philip Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Exploit Technologies, said, "A*STAR is showcasing a very strong pipeline of market-ready technologies in the upcoming CommunicAsia. The focus on infocomm technologies that enhance lifestyle, communications and enterprise operations is in line with the market's new growth areas. We strongly encourage all industry players to visit our booth at CommunicAsia to explore potential collaboration opportunities. It is only by working together that we can maximise our commercialisation success and get good technologies into the marketplace."
Added Prof Lye Kin Mun, Acting Executive Director of I2R, "With today's lifestyle needs, any solution that benefits or enhancesthe end-user experience are very much sought after in this fast paced world. These practical solutions from our R&D efforts will be showcased at this exhibition. In addition, I2R seeks to develop new Infocomm and media technologies that serve up thebest experience by improved connectivity, interactivity and enhanced communications for our global partners."
The exhibition will have on display and for licensing, technologies in three main application areas, namely:
1. Lifestyle
- 3D Face Modelling Web service - Dance! 3D - Intelligent Gesture-based Information Kiosk - Network-Adaptive Audio Streaming in HD based on MPEG-4 SLS Scalable Lossless - Scalable Media Gateway (powered by A*SMP)
2. Communications
- Active Tag and System - Flexible RFID Middleware - Fault Diagnosis Module for Optical Networking Terminals - Maritime Mobile Mesh Network
3. Enterprise
- Digital forensic evidence & file recovery system
Besides the ten technologies, a groupof A*STAR's start-ups and licensees will introduce their products and services at the event. These include Compex Systems Pte Ltd, FXMedia Internet Pte Ltd, iTwin Pte Ltd, Knorex Pte Ltd, Signature Music Technologies Pte Ltd, Niometrics Pte Ltd and XYZ Wave Pte Ltd.
All media representatives and photographer/film crews are cordially invited to visit A*STAR's booth at CommunicAsia 2010, from 15 to 18 June 2010 at Singapore Expo Hall 3, Booth 3D1-01.
