Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Toshiba Brings Fax Features to Entry-Level Unified Messaging Solution for SMB Users

By: Marketwire .
Jun. 15, 2010 11:00 AM

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/15/10 -- Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba -- www.telecom.toshiba.com) today announced Fax Features for its Strata® Messaging low-cost, Unified Messaging solution for the Small to Medium Business (SMB) market. Compatible with Toshiba's Strata CIX™ family of IP business communication systems, Strata Messaging with Fax Features is now available through Toshiba's network of Authorized Dealers nationwide.

"Adding Fax Features to Toshiba's Strata Messaging solution gives SMB users the ability to manage their fax communications in a unified messaging format, helping improve productivity and reduce fax costs," said Mark Carpenter, director of Product Management for Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division.

"With Fax Features, Strata Messaging users can eliminate costly and unreliable fax machines and can manage all their fax communications in their mailboxes," advised Ron Hunsaker, senior product manager for Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division. "In addition, adding fax into the feature set of such a low cost system makes Strata Messaging a smart and easy choice over the competition."

Strata Messaging Fax Features Lets SMB Users Manage Their Faxes

With Fax Features, Strata Messaging users can manage their incoming and outgoing faxes in a unified messaging format, which improves productivity while reducing fax costs.

Among the new capabilities are:

  • Fax Mail -- Allows a mailbox owner to receive faxes in the voice mailbox and view them via unified messaging, or reroute the fax to a physical fax machine.
  • Fax From Desktop -- Provides users with the ability to send faxes from the desktop.
  • Incoming Fax Target -- Allows faxes to be rerouted from an incoming mailbox to a secondary mailbox.
  • Incoming Fax Direct Inward Dialing (DID) -- Associates a DID number with the mailbox for inbound fax messages, allowing the fax to be stored in the mailbox.
  • Fax Auto Print -- Allows automatic printing of incoming faxes to network printers in a Microsoft Windows® environment.
  • Fax Log -- Creates a web-based report that displays the mailbox owner's outbound faxes.
  • Fax-on-Demand -- Allows incoming callers to access a library of documents and select a specific fax document to be faxed to them.
  • Fax Queue -- Creates a web-based report that displays the mailbox owner's outbound faxes currently queued for transmission.
  • Fax Settings -- Allows the mailbox owner to set personal outbound fax settings, such as the number of times to retry fax delivery.

Cost-Effective Upgrade

Fax Features are easy to add to Strata Messaging. Enterprises just need to purchase the fax license and gateway. Some Fax Features, such as Fax Mail and Fax From Desktop, also require users to have Unified Messaging licenses. "This is also great news for existing Strata Messaging customers who can easily add the new fax options to their installed systems," Hunsaker added.

About Strata Messaging

Designed for SMB users, Strata Messaging is compatible with Toshiba's Strata CIX family of IP business communications systems, including the CIX40, CIX100, CIX200, CIX670 and CIX1200. It is ideally sized and priced to address the Unified Messaging needs of users of the smaller Toshiba VoIP systems, the Strata CIX40 and CIX100.

Strata Messaging supports 2 to 8 ports of voice mail, up to 400 mailboxes, and has 300 hours of storage. The base system package offers two voice mail ports and 10 seats of Unified Messaging and is expandable. Additional ports and Unified Messaging seats can be purchased and licensed through Authorized Toshiba Dealers.

Strata Messaging resides on an external Linux-based appliance equipped with internal components designed for reliability. Strata Messaging connects to the Strata CIX through IP channels.
