Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

U.S. Defense Department Certifies Juniper Networks Routers, Switches and VoIP Solutions
Solutions Include Industry's First Edge Routers to Pass New MPLS ASLAN Requirements

By: Marketwire .
Aug. 4, 2010 08:00 AM

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/04/10 -- Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that several of its routing, switching and circuit-to-packet solutions have been tested and certified by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) for interoperability with Defense Department networks and have been added to the Unified Capabilities Approved Product List.

Newly certified by JITC are Juniper Networks EX3200 and EX4200 Ethernet Switches; MX240, MX480 and MX960 Universal Edge Routers; and the CTP 1000 and 2000 Series circuit-to-packet solutions that enable Voice and Video over IP (VoIP) advances in voice and data networks. The EX Series and MX Series products are now certified as Assured Services Local Area Networks (ASLAN) devices; the MX Series is the industry's first edge router to pass the new DISA MPLS ASLAN requirements.

These new certifications follow other recently announced JITC certifications of Juniper Networks SA Series SSL VPN solutions for interoperability with Defense Department Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) requirements.

JITC interoperability testing and certification are required by the U.S. Department of Defense for all networking devices supporting real-time services such as Voice and Video over IP. The Unified Capabilities Approved Product List certification process ensures products are capable of meeting the demanding security requirements to connect to the Defense Information Systems Network and open standards-based interoperability with Defense Department Networks.

"The growing number of Juniper Networks solutions achieving certification by JITC and via other testing frameworks such as Common Criteria and FIPS demonstrates our ongoing commitment to meet the most rigorous networking demands of our defense and civilian agency clients, as well as our commercial and systems integrator partners," said Brian Roach, vice president, Federal, Juniper Networks. "More network managers and agency executives realize the extensive testing procedures of certifying bodies such as JITC help ensure their own networks are capable of delivering high performance, security and reliability in increasingly demanding networking environments."

The EX4200 line of switches includes Juniper's Virtual Chassis fabric technology, which enables up to ten interconnected switches to operate as a single, logical device even if the switches reside in separate wiring closets, on separate floors or in separate buildings. When configured with Virtual Chassis fabric technology, the EX4200 switches combine the availability and reliability of modular systems with the economics and flexibility of stackable switches, delivering a high-performance, scalable solution for data center and campus environments. The EX3200 line of Ethernet switches offers a high-performance standalone solution for low-density access deployments in the wiring closets of remote offices and small LANs in large office buildings.

The MX Series routers are a family of high-performance Ethernet Services routers with powerful switching and security features that meet network requirements for advanced IP voice and video services, including VoIP, interactive video conferencing, IPTV and multicast services. The MX Series features advanced routing features such as MPLS network virtualization, low latency multicast, advanced QoS, IPv6 and security capabilities (IPSec/Stateful Firewall, NAT and DAA) to accelerate and secure the delivery of time-sensitive traffic.

Juniper's CTP Series Circuit-to-Packet platforms enable government agencies to migrate legacy circuit-based network applications (e.g., multiplexing transport networks, PBX systems) to higher-performance packet-based Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Increasingly, government agencies are requiring the convergence of voice, data, video, web traffic and file sharing applications move from circuit to IP networks in order to concurrently manage explosive growth in network volume while improving network performance, security and cost efficiency.
