Rackspace Hosting has gone GA with its beta Cloud Servers for Windows. The new service is supposed to deliver a highly scalable environment ideal for Windows-based hosting, testing and developing applications or "supporting the high levels of traffic required for launching online gaming platforms or the next social networking phenomenon."
It's designed for SMBs, .NET developers, system admins and current Rackspace customers and includes:
Custom configurations with full administrator access
The ability to upgrade server size on-demand
Add or delete servers on-the-fly
Rescue mode
Management via the Rackspace Cloud Control Panel and the Cloud Servers API
Ability to add additional IP addresses
Enterprise-class SLAs
Support for Microsoft Windows Server images including Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit; Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit; Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Enterprise Edition 32-bit; Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit and Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2 Enterprise Edition 32-bit
Rackspace expects to add backups and snapshots to its Cloud Files widgetry soon.
The technology was reportedly tested for months with hundreds of customers. The company says the service provides a full suite of features supported by the industry's leading Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Rackspace's legendary customer service. Pricing currently begins at eight cents an hour with 1GB RAM and 40GB disk.
