We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
Sixnet,
a global market leader of machine-to-machine (M2M)
networking solutions for industrial and commercial markets, and
distributor A.E. Petsche, an Arrow Electronics company, today announced
they have been awarded a multi-year army contract with a maximum value
in excess of $18 million. The contract is part of WestWind Technologies,
Inc.’s agreement to supply Digital Backbone Kits to the U.S. Army
Tank-Automotive Life Cycle Management Command (TACOM) for the Mine
Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle program.
WestWind will provide the Command, Control, Communications and Computer,
Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Digital Backbone
Kits in production quantities for integration into thousands of Army
vehicles. Each of these kits will utilize Sixnet’s IP67
Ethernet switches for reliable, high-performance networking.
“The selection of our rugged IP67 switches for TACOM’s Digital Backbone
Kits helps further validate Sixnet as a leading industrial connectivity
provider,” said Scott Killian, director of connectivity solutions for
Sixnet. “With over 5,000 Sixnet switches delivered on the Stryker, a
General Dynamics’ Land Systems vehicle, we are pleased our solution is
being used as part of another platform that will enhance the
capabilities of our nation’s troops.”
The Sixnet IP67 Ethernet switches are MIL-STD-1275 (power protection),
MIL-STD-461 (EMC performance) and MIL-STD-810 (environmental) military
rated to withstand the harshest of environments without sacrificing
performance. From temperature control to deployable power generation,
Sixnet switches link in-vehicle communications systems to support a host
of military applications on the land, in the air and on the sea
regardless of harsh climate, shock and vibration extremes.
