Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
Compass
Plus, an international provider of electronic payment solutions and
retail banking technology to financial institutions, today announced
that its TranzWare
Card Management System (CMS) and TranzWare
Online products successfully completed performance tests on the IBM
System z™ enterprise server at the IBM Products and Solutions
Services Centre in Montpellier, France.
TranzWare CMS provides financial institutions with automated management
of the issuance and circulation of payment cards, as well as bank and
merchant acquiring. The testing, which simulated six months worth of
live transaction data and associated batch procedures, demonstrated that
TranzWare CMS is capable of running all end-of-month procedures in less
than eight hours for at least 10 million active credit cards. The system
was tested using a variety of data sets, such as overdue and non-overdue
accounts, as well as active and blocked cards.
Compass Plus’ TranzWare Online manages electronic payment transactions
and ATM networks. The system underwent stress testing in a processing
scenario containing a database of 100 million customers, accounts and
cards and simulating up to 54,000 terminals comprised of 15,000 ATMs and
39,000 POS devices. The testing included ATM transactions, of which 85
percent were cash withdrawal and 15 percent were balance inquiry, and
POS purchase transactions.
All terminals functioned with limit checks, commission calculations,
performance of full authorization in stand-in mode and authentication of
cardholders, among other parameters. The ATMs were monitored by the
system in full online mode. During the tests, TranzWare Online achieved
460 business transactions per second (TPS), with a peak of 6,000 logical
TPS. For instance, a cash withdrawal represents one business
transaction, but is comprised of multiple logical transactions, such as
validating the card and checking account balances.
“The payments landscape is continuously evolving, especially when
considering consumers’ growing expectation for impeccable and secure
service around the clock,” said Doug Varble, North American vice
president of Compass Plus. “By aligning with leading vendors in the
market to test new products, Compass Plus plays a significant role in
the development and improvement of enterprise solutions that are
deployed across the financial industry.”
IBM System z™ acts as the management hub for the enterprise computing
environment, efficiently and securely handling complex application and
processing requirements. System z delivers large-scale consolidation
capabilities for savings of up to 80 percent in total cost of ownership
compared to distributed platforms.
Built by an in-house team of software developers, the highly flexible
architecture and single-integration structure of TranzWare products
enable effective use of applications in a broad spectrum of business
environments, as well as easy deployment and management. All TranzWare
products are PCI DSS and PA DSS compliant.
