Panopto Fusion Puts the Power of Lecture Capture Directly Into the Hands of Faculty

Panopto and Macmillan Announce Panopto Fusion -- Allowing Professors to Extend the Course Beyond the Classroom to Improve Retention and Learning Outcomes

ANAHEIM, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/12/10 -- EDUCAUSE -- Global publisher Macmillan and Panopto, Inc., a leading provider of rich media lecture capture solutions, today announced Panopto Fusion, a full-featured lecture capture solution designed for adoption by individual faculty members. Available for spring 2011 courses, Panopto Fusion provides faculty with a flexible and easy-to-use solution that allows them to capture, edit, stream, archive and share recordings with their students in one immediately accessible and searchable resource.

Panopto Fusion complements Panopto's institutional solution, Panopto Focus, offering the higher education market a choice in its lecture capture solution. Using Panopto's technology, both products enable faculty to deliver extra content to their students before and after class, as well as make in-class content available when and where students need it, thus extending the lecture beyond the classroom to improve retention and learning outcomes.

"Lecture capture is quickly becoming an effective and powerful breakthrough technology in higher education," said Eric Burns, CTO of Panopto. "Because there should be no barrier to entry, we have made our software available to institutions, faculty and students, giving them options for access and support regardless of their level of technical sophistication and IT budget constraints."

Panopto Fusion is a full-featured lecture capture solution that does not require a large IT budget or staff. Panopto Fusion is available to students for a nominal fee that includes comprehensive 24-hour Panopto Support, which manages the lecture capture experience end-to-end for both students and faculty.

Panopto Focus allows institutions to deploy lecture capture campus-wide with a low total cost of ownership, a flexible architecture that works with existing IT infrastructure, and a simple interface for all users. Panopto Focus can be hosted on Panopto's servers or on a university's own servers.

"Panopto shares Macmillan's mission to make available simple tools that are proven to increase students' mastery of course objectives as well as facilitating an active and collaborative learning environment," said Troy Williams, vice president & general manager of New Ventures at Macmillan. "Together with Panopto, we are working to support the needs of students and their evolving learning styles."

Mark Nestor, chief information officer at the Medical Center Campus of Miami Dade College, said, "Panopto is changing the way we deliver instruction. Since adding the lecture capture system two years ago, faculty have begun using it in a variety of ways that allow them to provide students with course content at any time, any place. Best of all, we have seen an increase in student satisfaction and better retention of information."

Panopto was originally developed at Carnegie Mellon University with faculty and student needs in mind. Because Panopto is so simple to use, instructors can focus on the pedagogy rather than the technology. Since its launch in spring 2008, Panopto has been adopted at more than 350 higher educational institutions in the United States and Canada.

Signs of a shift in the usage of public clouds are everywhere. Previously, as organizations outgrew old IT methods, the natural answer was to try the public cloud approach; however, the public platform alone is not a complete solution. Complaints include unpredictable/escalating costs and mounting security concerns in the public cloud. Ultimately, public cloud adoption can ultimately mean a shift of IT pains instead of a resolution. That's why the move to hybrid, custom, and multi-cloud will ...

Using serverless computing has a number of obvious benefits over traditional application infrastructure - you pay only for what you use, scale up or down immediately to match supply with demand, and avoid operating any server infrastructure at all. However, implementing maintainable and scalable applications using serverless computing services like AWS Lambda poses a number of challenges. The absence of long-lived, user-managed servers means that states cannot be maintained by the service. Lo...

Kubernetes as a Container Platform is becoming a de facto for every enterprise. In my interactions with enterprises adopting container platform, I come across common questions: - How does application security work on this platform? What all do I need to secure? - How do I implement security in pipelines? - What about vulnerabilities discovered at a later point in time? - What are newer technologies like Istio Service Mesh bring to table? In this session, I will be addressing these commonly asked ...
In a recent survey, Sumo Logic surveyed 1,500 customers who employ cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). According to the survey, a quarter of the respondents have already deployed Docker containers and nearly as many (23 percent) are employing the AWS Lambda serverless computing framework. It's clear: serverless is here to stay. The adoption does come with some needed changes, within both application development and operations. Th...
