VMware has launched the Zimbra 7 rev of its bought-off-Yahoo e-mail and collaboration platform, whose off-line Desktop and Appliance pieces are still in beta. Zimbra's former Collaboration Suite is now the Zimbra Collaboration Server 7. There are supposed to be new data-sharing capabilities, expanded calendaring and search functionality, and upgraded management features. It claims 66 million paid mailboxes and 200,000 companies using it either internally or as a service. The stuff works on Ubuntu, Red Hat and SUSE as well as Mac and Windows and is positioned against Google Apps and Lotus Live as well as Exchange, Notes and Groupwise.
