McLEAN, Va., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Care Fusion(R), a leading provider of enterprise positive patient identification solutions, announced today the release of a case study that details the successful results from the deployment of Wireless CareCollect at Hamilton Medical Center. Hamilton Medical Center is a 282-bed regional acute-care hospital located in Dalton, Georgia.
The case study describes how the deployment of wCareCollect, a positive patient identification (PPID) specimen and blood collection solution, improved both patient safety and work flow processes at Hamilton Medical Center. wCareCollect allows phlebotomists and healthcare providers the ability to scan a patient's barcoded wristband to positively identify the patient, verify orders and print a time-stamped barcode label for any specimen being collected. The findings stated that not only did the system improve patient safety, but also improved productivity throughout the hospital. "With the utilization of this system, the productivity bonus has become the most significant improvement," stated Margaret Herrin, Director Laboratory Services at Hamilton.
Within 30 days of the final software installation, Hamilton was using wCareCollect live in all inpatient areas where phlebotomists performed collections. "I have installed many systems and this implementation and go- live was painless compared to others," said Clinical Coordinator Kenneth Lowery.
As the utilization of the system progressed, Hamilton found that the system did provide the expected safety features with the patient identification checks, but also noted additional workflow and information benefits. Significant benefits were achieved in both the rapid turn around of data provided to the phlebotomists and reduction in manual steps to complete collection activities.
Herrin added, "We are working with Care Fusion to continue to implement the system further in the outpatient areas and include the nursing staff in those specialty areas who provide phlebotomy services. The project has proven to exceed our expectations for meeting our patient safety goals and improving lab collection workflow and work load management. Hamilton is pleased to have taken steps to continue to provide the safest healthcare environment possible."
