Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud.
We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
LONDON, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Well Adjusted Campaign wants the 20% of the UK population with
communication difficulties to tell the 80% of websites, which they can't
access how to do it better.
Eight out of every ten UK websites are shutting out 20% of the UK
population who have communication difficulties such as dyslexia. The Well
Adjusted Campaigners which include the British Dyslexia Association and
2080partners want all websites to make themselves accessible to all, and to
draw up a charter of reasonable adjustments site owners can make.
5th May 2006 sees the official launch of The Well Adjusted Campaign to
champion web access for all.
The Well Adjusted Campaign will invite business, charities, government
and the public to define the 'reasonable adjustments' that organisations need
to make their websites and other media fully accessible.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 requires that reasonable
adjustments are made by providers of goods and services to make them
accessible to all. If all websites took account of the Act by making their
content, layout and design accessible everyone would benefit, not just the
'hidden' 20 per cent.
The final reasonable adjustments proposed by the campaign will be
launched as a Charter later this year, providing all organisations with the
clear guidance they need to be 'Well Adjusted' - 100% accessible to all.
The Well Adjusted Campaign estimates that GBP180 billion is lost annually
by business because their websites are not fully accessible.
The Well Adjusted Campaign launch will take place at the Institute of
Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (London) on 5th May at 12.30pm.
On 5th May, the Well Adjusted Campaign website also launches at
http://www.welladjusted.org.uk/. This will provide a forum for debate and
enable people to define the reasonable adjustments.
The Well Adjusted Campaign will announce the top 10 reasonable
adjustments on 10th October 2006.
