SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/27/12 -- The former executive producer of Monolith's F.E.A.R. game has his sights on taking the fear out of life improvement with Mindbloom. On the heels of members completing 3 million achievements in Mindbloom's Life Game, the company today announced several new features to make it even more fun for people to define what's important, discover what motivates them, and take meaningful daily actions in all areas of their life. The expanded array of new features include the ability to make the Life Game more personalized to a user's specific life goals, broader sharing capabilities to draw in community support every step of the way, stylistic photo editing for more personalized rich media inspiration and in-game mobile game achievements for on-the-go inspiration.
Mindbloom founder Chris Hewett spent most of his career at Monolith, where he began as a level designer, became producer on No One Lives Forever and ended up executive producer on F.E.A.R. and Tron 2.0. After shipping F.E.A.R., one of Monolith's most successful games to date, Hewett took time off to focus on his family and his health. It was then when he noticed on daytime television programs like Oprah that the quest for a balanced life was an unsolved problem throughout society. Thus the idea for the Mindbloom Life Game was born, a browser-based app with a mobile companion that puts the principles of behavioral science behind social gaming to inspire people and help them achieve their personal health and wellness goals.
"There's no reason that life improvement can't be as fun as popular social games like Words with Friends or Cityville, or as engaging and visual as gaming experiences on PCs and consoles," said Chris Hewett, founder and executive producer for Mindbloom. "With the right mixture of art, technology, science and gaming mechanics, we've successfully made life improvement accessible to everyone in a fun, simple and effective way."
Launched last September 2011, Mindbloom's Life Game is a free-to-play life game to grow the life they want. Using the metaphor of a Life Tree, Mindbloom inspires people to define what's important and is a visual representation of a user's priorities and progress in life -- health, lifestyle, career, creativity, relationships, finances, and spirituality. Living in a dynamic game environment, the user progresses by using images, music and quotes to inspire life improvement. Members keep the Life Tree green by completing simple actions that earn them sun, rain, seeds and awards, a total of 650,000 have been awarded to date. Mindbloom has added the following features to make Mindbloom's Life Game even more engaging and fun:
- Life Tree personalization boosts intrinsic motivation to accomplish goals. Members can now rename the leaves on their tree or create new personalized leaves, as well as find recommended actions through new search capabilities.
- Instagram-like photo editing inspires people to stay engaged. Members can now use fun tools for lighting, adjustments, and cosmetics to create inspirational images that keep their personal goals top of mind.
- More sharing, means more support for Mindbloomers. The Life Game just opened up to more people with the help of a new Critter and new mail features. The Critter helps members be more proactive about inviting friends, and better managing their daily actions. Friends of Mindbloomers can receive a Snailmail from a member or see a public viewing of The Life Game without having to login online or on their mobile devices. Members can also discover other members who may be doing similar actions or have similar inspirations.
- In-game mobile achievements make it possible to get more sunshine and rain every day, from anywhere. Now optimized for the mobile web, members can play the Life Game on-the-go more effectively, including viewing, adding and checking-off actions to earn raindrops to help grow their Life Tree and view their inspiration video to earn sun credit.
