Brands on social media platforms are trying harder to get your attention every day and Twitter and Facebook have announced some new products to lend them a hand. Twitter has unveiled “interest targeting” a product that lets advertisers get promoted tweets out to a larger audience. In the past, promoted tweets were only seen by followers of the brand and users similar to those followers. Now, Twitter will provide advertisers with 350 interest categories to choose from when promoting and Tweet. Twitter will decide which users fit into which categories, and in turn, who will see what promoted tweets. On the Facebook front, advertisers will now be able to find customers who’ve already used their service, using phone numbers and email addresses. Don’t worry – Facebook will not be collecting any extra data or sharing your information with businesses who don’t already have your information. It is simply providing tool to allow businesses to more easily find people they’ve done business with before.
