Virtustream has snared a handsome contract to move Veyance Technologies' complex global SAP environment to its xStream cloud platform where it will run in production.

Veyance, in case you don't know, is the exclusive manufacturer and marketer of Goodyear engineered products worldwide and its SAP environment serves over 3,000 users.

Its legacy SAP R/3, SAP XI, TREX, Netweaver, ITS and WAS systems were previously deployed on physical hardware in a traditional outsourcing arrangement. It decided to move to the cloud to enable an extensive global data center and server consolidation initiative, which will cut its IT costs, and to let it scale dynamically as future expansion needs.

Veyance will still manage the multi-tenant environment with a single panel of glass.

Its requirements reportedly included true consumption-based pricing, guaranteed compute resources, data protection and industry-leading SLAs. The xStream platform will also provide comprehensive disaster recovery and data protection.

"Virtustream's track record of deploying significant SAP production environments - while only charging for the infrastructure resources that are actually consumed - was a significant factor prompting us to consider and ultimately select their solution," Veyance CIO John Hill said. "With the demand for our products increasing rapidly, xStream provides the performance, security and pricing we need for our day-to-day operations as well as the flexibility and elasticity to meet our expansion needs."

It will use VMware virtualization.

Virtustream claims its xStream cloud platform delivers an innovative approach to private, virtual private and hybrid clouds, enabling customers to deploy mission-critical applications in the cloud. Powered by the company's µVM technology, xStream delivers enterprise-grade security and compliance, multi-tenant efficiency, application performance SLAs and consumption-based charging for both legacy and web-scale mission-critical applications. xStream is supposed to be particularly adept at delivering the hybrid cloud model that most enterprises require - allowing a combination of existing IT, on-site private clouds with off-site virtual private/public clouds. xStream allows them to adopt the cloud at their own pace, running their mission-critical applications in the cloud while other applications can remain in a traditional hosted model or on-site.

Virtustream offers xStream worldwide, owns and operates redundant data centers in the US and EMEA, operates an international Cloud Exchange, and has offices in New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Atlanta, London, Toronto and Dublin with partners in Asia, Middle East and China.

It claims 40%-50% better response time than an in-house system.
