POMONA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/06/12 -- The 2012 L.A. County Fair continues its 24-day run and its strong commitment to benefiting the local community with a weekend of giving back. From honoring first responders and military with a "Weekend for Heroes," to benefitting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank with canned food donations, or supporting local hospitals, the L.A. County Fair is not only pure fun, but pure community and caring.
The L.A. County Fair honors local heroes with a Weekend for Heroes Friday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 9. During this time, active and retired military, reserves, police, firefighters and paramedics with ID, along with a guest, can attend the Fair for $1 each. All proceeds from the $1 admissions will go directly to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the major source of private financial support for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). The LAFD Foundation supports the fire department's 3,586 uniformed personnel and 353 non-sworn professionals with necessary equipment and training.
Exchange canned food for fair food! Furthering its commitment to improving communities, every Friday at the Fair is Food Drive Friday. From noon to 6 p.m., guests can receive free Fair admission in exchange for five canned food items. The canned goods will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, with a portion going directly to an honored local community's charity.
Bring the kids to help the kids! Saturday, Sept. 8 is CHLA Day at the Fair benefitting Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Guests wanting to visit the Fair this day can use promo code "CHLADAY" on the Fair's online ticket ordering system to receive $5 off admission for adults and children. With each CHLA Day ticket purchase, $1 will go directly to CHLA. Guests can also visit the CHLA booth in Fairview Farms on Sept. 8 to learn more about the hospital's community programs.
After helping the local community upon admission, guests can enjoy horsing around with the opening of horse racing Friday, Sept. 7. Post time is 4 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday through Sunday with free grandstand seating and free clubhouse admission.
Fun for the whole family, the L.A. County Fair runs through Sept. 30, 2012 and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
