Nearly two-thirds of registered voters (64%) recall receiving recorded telephone messages in the final stages of an election (Pew Research Center).

Also known as Robocalls, voters receive a pre-recorded message usually from the candidate can identify voters, raise money, increase attendance at events and what is most important, get people out to vote.

Another benefit of auto calls is the immediacy factor. Near the end of a campaign if a candidate uses direct mail to attack, the opponent can counter with an auto call to get out the last important word.  Candidates can also send out that last word as voters leave for the polls.

Robo or auto calls are exempt from the Do Not Call registry and are legal in every state except for Indiana and North Dakota.
