NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 09/11/12 -- The world's pre-eminent exploration organization, The Explorers Club, founded in New York in 1904, will hold a chapter dinner in Beijing on Sept. 18. That night, starting at 6 p.m., some of the world's greatest explorers will gather to celebrate the role China has played in exploration.
In attendance will be Explorers Club President Alan Nichols, an authority on Emperor Chinggis Qa'an (Genghis Khan); and NASA Astronaut Leroy Chiao, who will speak about the cooperation among nations for space exploration. Nichols will be presented with a traditional Explorers Club flag to take on his upcoming Genghis Khan Expedition.
The Explorers Club (www.explorers.org) hosts fifteen-year NASA veteran Astronaut Leroy Chiao, Ph.D.; and Explorers Club President Alan Nichols (explorers.org). A veteran of four space missions, Dr. Chiao most recently served as Commander and NASA Science Officer of Expedition 10 aboard the International Space Station. He has logged over 229 days in space -- over 36 hours of which were spent in Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA, or spacewalks).
Explorers Club President Alan Nichols will explain plans to study the last days of Genghis Khan (or more properly transliterated as Chinggis Qa'an), founder of the world's largest empire in history and Mongolia's most revered figure.
Recognize the importance of China to the history of exploration and to today's explorers.
