Federal Economic Development Agency Funds People-Centered Healthcare Initiative
TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - NexJ Systems Inc., (TSX: NXJ) a leading provider of next generation enterprise customer relationship management (CRM) solutions, today announced that the NexJ Connected Wellness Platform has been selected as a fundamental component of a Federal Economic Development Agency funded people-centered healthcare initiative, the Connected Health and Wellness Project (CHWP).
16 Ontario partners have come together to use the NexJ Connected Wellness Platform for the CHWP, a new people-centered and technology-enabled project that will enable patients to keep health information from different hospitals or clinics in one place, and allow them decide who they trust to see that information. The system will offer tools to help people better manage their own health and wellness and more easily connect with healthcare professionals. In addition, the CHWP will enhance collaboration among these professionals.
"The NexJ Connected Wellness Platform delivers health information directly to the patient. People can then share that information with others: family, advocates, health coaches, physicians, specialists, other providers, and social communities - all through the cloud," said William M. Tatham, Chief Executive Officer, NexJ Systems Inc. "Empowering the individual to take control of their wellness has the potential of reducing illness and therefore the strain on the healthcare system. We believe the NexJ Connected Wellness Platform has the ability to revolutionize the way healthcare systems operate today, across North America and around the world, and the Connected Health and Wellness Project will demonstrate that."
The Federal government has provided $15.5 million in funding for the CHWP to spur health care innovation in Southern Ontario as well as job creation in industry, health care and academia. The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario is working with major partners York University, McMaster University and NexJ Systems, along with other partners.
"This partnership is an important step forward for transforming and sustaining healthcare and wellness systems in Canada and globally," said Harvey Skinner, Dean of the Faculty of Health at York University. "The combination of mobile technology, electronic health records and behaviour change supported by a Health Coach will help more people live healthier, longer, and receive timely access to effective healthcare when needed. This is the essence of people-centred health."
Benefits of the project will include increased healthcare system efficiency, better health outcomes and economic growth through the creation of personalized healthcare services.
Among the organizations currently using the NexJ Connected Wellness Platform is Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, New York City Public Health, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and the Black Creek Community Health Centre.
