FALMOUTH, Maine, Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sumerian Sports & Entertainment a leading sports and entertainment activation and representation agency announced today that it will represent Olympic medalist, 3-time World Champion and 2-time National Champion hockey star Hilary Knight.
As one of the country's premier women's hockey players and as the youngest member of Team USA in the 2010 Olympic Games, Knight is a rising star in the sport, looking to bring a fresh perspective to hockey, fitness and nutrition. Knight is aiming to inspire the next generation of athletes and leaders through support of noteworthy causes.
Knight is working with Sumerian Sports & Entertainment to develop a public service announcement video in support of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, in partnership with the American College of Sports Medicine. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, and Knight's public service announcement aims to ultimately combat a rising obesity rate among children. More than 23 million U.S. children are overweight or obese, a statistic that medical experts consider an epidemic.
"I got involved because childhood obesity poses a serious threat to the next generation," Knight said. "In order for kids to grow into healthy, smart adults, we need to inspire them and provide the necessary tools and resources like those available on the National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month's website."
Knight made her Olympic debut at age 20 with an impressive 1 goal 7 assist performance, helping her team to a silver medal. She has played in five world championships, starting at age 17 when the U.S. team won silver. Playing for the University of Wisconsin, Knight led the Badgers to two National Championships and became the all-time leader in career goals, points and numerous other statistics. She hopes to strike gold in the 2014 Olympics, and she aims to be the first woman to play in the NHL.
