Airband Communications, the largest fixed-wireless voice and data provider for businesses in the U.S., today announced that legendary car auctioneer Barrett-Jackson has signed a three-year renewal for Internet access delivered by Airband’s fixed-wireless network. The renewal includes the 5th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car Auction at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino from Thursday, Sept. 20 to Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, as well as auctions in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Covering substantially all of the Las Vegas Valley, Airband’s fixed-wireless network can dramatically scale bandwidth in a matter of hours without having to install new technology or change existing infrastructures. The scalability of Airband’s network delivers unique benefits to the hospitality industry, giving hotels, event centers and conference venues flexibility for significant bandwidth changes, depending on customer demands and event attendance.
As one of the world’s most widely attended automobile auction events, Barrett-Jackson requires significant bandwidth to help manage its automotive catalog, online bidding and live video streaming. For the Las Vegas event, Airband is providing 70MB of symmetrical bandwidth via its fixed-wireless network to Mandalay Bay specifically for the auction.
“Airband has proven its value to us for several years, and their fixed-wireless Internet service is an integral part of our car auctions’ network infrastructure,” said Tim Heit, IT project manager for Barrett-Jackson. “Barrett-Jackson relies on Airband to ensure that our operational and customer environments experience uninterrupted service so we can provide the most stimulating, interactive auction experience for our fans.”
Airband’s fixed-wireless network provides true path diversity to traditional wireline services for mission-critical network applications. Airband’s service goes literally above the existing landline networks to deliver Internet access over-the-air to the desired location. In this dual path service deployment scenario, the customer has both the wired and wireless circuits for failover to maximize reliability and redundancy.
“Airband’s network is particularly well-suited for the Las Vegas market because of the highly variable bandwidth needs of hotels, conference centers and other event venues. The reliability and scalability of our solution provides customers with additional bandwidth when needed, and it delivers a diverse path to ensure that their mission-critical systems can run without interruption,” said Mike Johnson, general manager of Airband’s Southern Nevada market. “We are very proud that Barrett-Jackson has extended its relationship with Airband, and we look forward to ensuring that car collectors worldwide have the highest quality interactive experience for which Barrett-Jackson is known.”
Many conference centers in Las Vegas and other markets leverage Airband’s fixed-wireless network to support their meeting and event needs. Airband serves 17 markets across the U.S. including Atlanta; Austin; Baltimore; Dallas; Des Moines; Fort Lauderdale; Fort Worth; Houston; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; Orange County, Calif.; Philadelphia; Phoenix; San Antonio; San Diego and Washington, D.C.
