NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa, leader of the world's second-largest sect of Buddhism, will make an extremely rare visit to New York City from Saturday, September 22nd to Tuesday, September 25th. Fresh off a journey throughout remote regions of China, His Holiness is pleased to come to NYC.
This visit will coincide with the convening of United Nation's General Assembly. His Holiness will participate in official activities with heads of state, religious leaders, and diplomats and ambassadors. He will be involved in public and private activities and meet select members of the American and international media while here. Other activities on this important visit include a Q&A at a special screening of "PAD YATRA", a biopic following him on an eco-odyssey through Nepal, and a visit of compassion to a Juvenile lock-up at a South Bronx prison.
A United Nations Award-winning humanitarian, the Gyalwang Drukpa is committed to using Buddhist practices to help people who feel lost or uncertain. Based on ancient Buddhist teaching, but framed to be useful in today's world, he has written a book titled Everyday Enlightenment. It teaches readers that change is inevitable, that slowing down is the key to seeing clearly, and the importance of enjoying life's journey.
