OTTAWA, Sept. 23, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, participated in the 2012 edition of the Canada Army Run today in Ottawa.
"I feel honoured and privileged to have had the opportunity to run alongside men and women in uniform, Veterans and their families," said Minister Blaney. "It makes me proud to witness first hand their determination and perseverance, and to see people from all walks of life and from all ages take part in this very special event. Events like the Canada Army Run provide an opportunity for Canadians to join together with the Canadian Forces in the spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect."
Many Veterans Affairs Canada staff also participated in the run, providing yet another example of the Department's commitment to work with the Canadian Forces to create a culture of knowledge and respect for military service.
2012 marks the 5th anniversary of the Canada Army Run. This annual event, organized by the Canadian Army in Ottawa, raises awareness of the Army and promotes fitness. It includes two events: the 5K and the half marathon. Participants can walk, run, or roll. This is the fastest growing running event in Canada, and more than 18,000 participants have registered this year.
