ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/24/12 -- Australia announces a new international event celebrating documentary, factual film and television. The Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC Ltd) unveiled the expansion of its annual conference and the introduction of 'Documentary Week' (DocWeek) at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney today. DocWeek will be held in Adelaide, South Australia.
DocWeek will umbrella the conference annually in 2013, 2014 and 2015. DocWeek will take place at several venues around Adelaide's CBD from Monday the 25th of February till Sunday the 3rd of March and is presented in partnership with the annual Adelaide Festival. The Australian International Documentary Conference will be staged at the Intercontinental Hotel, from February 25 - 28, 2013 as part of the DocWeek program.
Joost den Hartog, Director of AIDC, said, "AIDC is excited about the development of Documentary Week. This expansion of our program will complement the conference and allow the general public to engage and immerse themselves in the world of documentary." DocWeek will feature screenings of current and retrospective work by internationally acclaimed master filmmakers and include over 30 handpicked classic documentaries, a competition strand for new talent; The F4 Award, master classes facilitated by visiting international guests and artist conversations.
A DocWeek highlight will be a retrospective of the works of, and an evening of conversation with legendary award winning filmmakers D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus.
American filmmakers D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus have directed more than 20 feature-length documentaries and are known for their live music registrations. D.A. Pennebaker's iconic 1965 film Don't Look Back, a portrait of Bob Dylan's first tour to the UK and his last as an acoustic performer has been voted the best music documentary of all time.
D.A Pennebaker will be awarded an Honorary Academy Award -- an Oscar statuette for extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences. D.A Pennebaker will be presented with the Oscar at the Academy's 4th Annual Governors Awards dinner on December 1 in California. D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus will fly to Adelaide straight from Los Angeles where they will attend the annual Academy Award Ceremony as Guests of Honour.
'In conversation with D.A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus' will take place in Adelaide at Elder Hall on Thursday 28 February and will be facilitated by Sydney based writer and journalist Elisabeth Wynhausen.
Documentary Week will also introduce a free screening program celebrating 100 years of Australian documentary curated and presented in partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive to be screened at the State Library of South Australia.
AIDC 2013 will further its focus on financing competitive factual media content for a global market. AIDC's Market Place is open for all factual genres like documentary, factual entertainment, scripted and non-scripted reality. With major international networks already confirmed, AIDC's Market Place is expected to be productive and exciting. Thursday, February 28th, will see a special focus program dedicated to the craft of factual filmmaking.
