In today’s digital world, the scary truth is that it’s no longer a question of if you’ll become a victim of a cyber incident, but when. Incidents can come in many forms, including identity theft, virus infections or password hacking. To help people arm themselves against digital attacks and compromises, the security experts at Cyber Griffin, Inc. are unveiling Hax AttacksTM – a new, first of its kind cyber mobile game. Hax AttacksTM is a fun and addictive game that also provides valuable lessons about cyber security in a way that everyone, at any age, can enjoy.
Cyber Griffin was founded by cyber security expert William Pelgrin. Drawing from his years of experience in the cyber security field, Mr. Pelgrin created Hax AttacksTM after seeing so many users – ranging from families and young people to older adults – fall victim to avoidable cyber-attack incidents. “We want players to have fun, while being empowered to get beyond mere awareness of the cyber threats, and be able to take action to stay safe,” said Pelgrin. “I hope Hax Attacks helps consumers start thinking about cyber security as second nature, like buckling their seatbelts!”
Available now on Apple’s app store, Hax AttacksTM is a dynamic physics-based game that leads players through a series of fun, yet increasingly challenging scenarios that teach cyber safety essentials, such as using strong passwords, avoiding phishing scams and protecting against viruses. Featuring exciting, unique game mechanics, players must safely deliver data packets to their database while avoiding “Hax,” the evil cyber hacker. Points are gained based on how well players score on each level, and cyber safety tips are offered to reinforce key themes in the game along the way, including:
- “Any word found in a dictionary is a bad password.”
- “Think before you click! Links in emails, instant messages, and popups can sometimes be harmful.”
- “Be careful what you share online! Once it’s out there, it can be much harder to take it back.”
- “Never write passwords down! Even if they are in a safe place, they could still end up in the wrong hands.”
- “Using a firewall is one of the easiest ways to improve security.”
The game also features the Hackability Meter, which lets players test their “hackability” based on how strong or weak their password is. By creating secure passwords (which are tested for strength through the Hackability Meter) players can win extra keys to open new worlds in the game.
Hax AttacksTM was produced by iconic game developers – whose work includes the Guitar Hero series – and features unique player-controlled game mechanics, which create new challenges at every level along with stimulating animation and sounds. Chad Rogers, one of the game’s producers, who has experience developing games for Electronic Arts and Activision, in addition to film work for Disney, says, “We developed Hax Attacks to be as engaging as possible, with a highly dynamic graphics environment that is easy to learn, but challenging to master. Players will be entertained while learning about cyber security.”
Hax Attacks was developed for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod devices and is available for download at Apple’s iTunes Store.
