OPaL's MacArthur Model Wins 2012 House of the Year

The Highly Lauded MacArthur Model Also Brings Home Best Architecture and Interior Merchandising Awards

CABIN JOHN, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 09/25/12 -- When you consider all the homes built in the National Capitol region each year, what are the chances that a single home, hailing from a small town inside the Capitol Beltway and accessible by a one lane bridge, would beat every other home at the Great American Living Awards? On September 20th, 2012 the MacArthur model from Cabin John Crossing did just that, walking away with three awards, including the coveted 2012 Home of the Year.

OPaL is an artisanal builder based in Cabin John, MD. With a small team consisting of OPaL, LLC, Seattle-based architect GPS Designs and local interior merchandising firm P Four, OPaL bested all public and private builders from Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and DC in three of the GALA Awards' most coveted categories:

  • Home of the Year -- The MacArthur at Cabin John Crossing
  • Best Architecture of Homes Priced Over $1M -- The MacArthur at Cabin John Crossing
  • Award of Merit for Interior Merchandising -- The MacArthur at Cabin John Crossing

Last year OPaL's Clara Barton model won Awards of Merit in the Home of the Year and Best Architecture categories as well as a National award for architecture. This year the MacArthur won in both categories and is also nominated for the same National award. "We were thrilled to be recognized in those categories last year, so you can imagine how it feels to be singled out from all the other builders in the region as the outright winner of Home of the Year this year! We put so much of our heart into our homes. And to be recognized and affirmed by the building community in this way is truly an honor," says Sean Ruppert.

Ruppert has a history at the GALA Awards that reaches beyond last year. Twelve years ago in the same Tysons Corner banquet hall, he won Sales Person of the Year while he was working at EYA. Since then, he has founded his own development company, built 10 small communities in the DC area and won dozens of awards. "Our hallmark is finding small projects in amazing, close-in locations, then building a handful of uniquely designed, impeccably finished homes there," states Ruppert. "We steer away from the traditional, Colonial style architecture homebuyers are used to in the region and offer a product perfect for those whose sense of style leans towards the unconventional."

The highly awarded MacArthur model is no exception. Built along the C&O Canal Towpath in the Cabin John area of Bethesda, MD, the MacArthur is everything today's homebuyer seeks in a luxury home -- interiors that blend seamlessly with the outdoors, a main level unencumbered by walls and location, location, location.

Next stop for the MacArthur? The Home of the Year will represent the Mid-Atlantic region in Las Vegas in the National GALA Awards in February, 2012. The regional GALA Awards are presented by the Washington Metropolitan Sales & Marketing Council, Northern Virginia Building Industry Association and the Maryland National Capital Building Industry Association.
