Sun Media Appoints Eric Morrison to Lead Reorganization of News Operations

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/27/12 -- Sun Media announces today the appointment of Eric Morrison as Senior Vice-President of Editorial with a mandate to lead the reorganization of Sun Media's news operations on all platforms.

"Eric Morrison is one of Canada's most experienced news executives and is uniquely qualified to shape a modern, national newsgathering operation," said Pierre Karl Peladeau, President and CEO of Sun Media. "This is an important step in Sun Media's drive to deliver high quality news to Canadians, both in the multimedia environment and via our established newspapers, which continue to be the foundation of our operations."

As Sun Media's Senior Vice-President of Editorial, Mr. Morrison -- the former President of The Canadian Press and an award-winning journalist and broadcast executive for CTV -- will head a national editorial management structure that will integrate the resources of Sun Media's English-language newspapers, websites and broadcast channels.

Mr. Morrison said: "Creating an effective news organization that will build on the strengths of the Sun Media network is an exciting mission. All the Sun newspapers, the community papers, local websites and the Canoe national portal are distinctive in that they have always maintained strong links to real people and their real concerns in the communities they serve.

"The driving principles are to be timely, accurate, in-depth and committed to delivering the information and answers Canadians want and need," said Mr. Morrison.

Sun Media's advertising and industrial operations will also be reorganized to focus on customers and on local and national business opportunities. This will allow both areas to create maximum value across all properties for customers and advertisers.

"Our objective is to create a powerful system that not only improves our editorial products but also structures our sales and operations systems to succeed in today's media marketplace," Mr. Peladeau said.
