Canyon Snow and Juniper Networks Collaborate to Make World-Class Improvement in Juniper’s Carbon Disclosure Project Score

Canyon Snow Consulting today announced that in collaboration with Juniper Networks, the industry leader in network innovation, Juniper has made a world-class improvement in its Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) score. On September 13th, the CDP, an independent not-for-profit organization working to drive greenhouse gas emission education and sustainable water use by businesses and cities, released its 2012 S&P 500 Climate Change Report, which revealed that Juniper Networks improved its year-over-year score by more than 20 points, from 59 to 80.

The report is co-written by CDP and PricewaterhouseCoopers and attempts to leverage market forces by incentivizing companies to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, climate change risk, and water strategies. Each company’s score reflects transparency on climate change issues and performance in measuring and reducing emissions. Canyon Snow Consulting worked with the Juniper Networks team to achieve the score increase by focusing on a detailed discussion of strategy, risk, and governance aspects of climate change and by highlighting a number of initiatives underway at the Sunnyvale, California headquarters campus.

“CDP is an important commitment; we are serious about protecting the environment and being responsible citizens,” said David Asplund, manager of Environmental Health and Safety and Security at Juniper Networks. Canyon Snow’s Jennifer Shepherd observed: “Juniper is a leader in this area, driving improvements in its operations and supply chain.”

The fact that 338 companies participated in the CDP report, a year-over-year increase of 10%, highlights that more S&P 500 companies are taking actions to mitigate their impacts on climate change. Participants reported reductions in corporate greenhouse gas emission of 13.8% over the last three years, from 3.6 billion metric tons in 2009 to 3.1 billion metric tons in 2012.

Canyon Snow Consulting is based in Silicon Valley and serves clients in multiple sectors, including high tech, clean tech, software, and financial services.
