IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/03/12 -- Burnham Benefits Insurance Services, one of the largest employee benefits brokerages in Southern California and one of the few to specialize solely in strategic employee benefits consulting, design and administration, announces the results of its seventh annual Burnham Employee-Benefits Benchmarking Survey comparing Orange County employers' employee-benefits programs. Integrating with nationwide results compiled by a leading national research organization specializing in healthcare industries and employers, Burnham commissions the study each year as part of a larger aim to deliver world-class service and provide measurable data not available with other firms.
The Burnham Benchmarking Survey once again reveals controlling healthcare costs as the top priority among Southern California employers. Participants indicate ongoing economic growth concerns and volatility relating to healthcare reform as significant macro-economic issues and disclose organizational initiatives and strategies that may play an impactful role in mitigating costs. The survey also indicated employee health improvements (such as obesity and chronic diseases) were key drivers for companies looking to develop new strategies.
Since employers can directly impact the improvement of employee health, some of those concerns are being addressed with higher rates of involvement in wellness programs, with 60 percent of respondents implementing such a program in the past year. Disease-management programs are significantly more prevalent in Southern California than in the rest of the nation.
By offering employee benefits benchmarking in California, Burnham Benefits offers clients a valuable context for benefit-program decision-making. This year's survey compiled data from 160 Southern California organizations regarding their employee benefits plans, cost containment and issues related to healthcare reform compliance.
"The decisions today's employers are faced with in relation to policy and plan design are extremely difficult, and this valuable annual survey offers them a lifeline to be sure they have the best, most complete information available to them as they make their choices," says Kristen Allison, president of Burnham Benefits Insurance Services and a 30-year veteran of the employee benefits industry. "One of our survey goals is to provide employers with the opportunity to share knowledge -- see what others in the industry are doing -- and, most importantly, learn and apply best practices from one another to constantly improve and achieve better results."
An effectively designed, implemented and measured wellness program concept is a prime best practice example. Employers benefit from managing rising costs, and more importantly, create a healthier employee population, improved communications and renewal rates.
The Burnham Benchmarking Survey provides critical data on plan design, cost participation and competitive positioning, offering employers valuable knowledge to balance within their respective industries. Side-by-side comparisons make it easy to evaluate businesses of similar sizes and industries, illuminating how they navigate healthcare reform, compliance, cost control and management of employee benefits programs and overall communications.
