Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Cambrian Development Announces Luxury Condominium Resort: 'The Grand Cambrian Resort'
Cambrian Development Announces Luxury Condominium Resort: 'The Grand Cambrian Resort'

By: PR Newswire
Jun. 21, 2006 08:04 PM

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambrian Development today announced their $163 million dollar Grand Cambrian Resort, a luxury condominium hotel resort on the Wisconsin River. As a true river resort, featuring over 2000 feet of river shoreline in what is called the "Rocky Island Region" of the lower dells, it will blend a mix of condominium styles with hotel services, retail, restaurant, banquets, indoor/ outdoor waterparks, river sports and arcade.

Positioned off Highway 16 on Lynch road in the city of Wisconsin Dells, the Grand Cambrian will join the Dells as a luxury condominium resort. "We are very excited that the City Council gave us their approval. This means we can go ahead with our sales plans for the summer season," said Craig Wilkinson, Operations Manager for the Resort. The overall idea of vacation resort ownership that someone maintains and rents out for you is not new to the Dells, but The Grand Cambrian's blend of large resort services will be unique to a 100% condominium resort. They will make available an optional in-house rental service, marketing, and variety of retail, restaurant, arcade, river sport activities and waterparks.

The Grand Cambrian Resort's hotel-style condominiums will consist of fully furnished 2 entrance units which begin at $380,000. The three bedroom and four bedroom loft units will range in size from just under 1500 square feet to almost 2000 square feet. The "2 key" design will include a large living space, 2 fireplaces, full kitchen, master suite, 2 or 3 guest bedrooms and up to 4 full baths. Owners will be able to lock off part of the unit to create a more standard style hotel room with a separate entrance. When locked off, the extra units will feature 2 queen beds, sofa sleeper, fireplace, full bath and kitchenette with wet bar area. All units will be furnished with luxury amenities including 42-inch flat screen TVs and whirlpool tubs.

The 3 styles of Townhouse Condominiums will feature single, single with loft and 2 story units and will range in size from 1300 square feet to over 2600 square feet. The units will be grouped in clusters of 2 up to 8 each. Each unit can be fully furnished to be a part of the optional rental pool or custom designed by their owners.

Mr. Wilkinson stated, "The resort has spent a substantial amount of time planning to maximize the sensational unit views of the river, Cambrian stone canyons and 80 foot tall pines." The buildings will take inspiration from the area's glacier formations having accents of stone with earth tones. "As we designed the hotel and townhouse condos we wanted to come up with something that not only blended with the natural colors of the area but also hadn't been done here before," stated "Mac" R. McDonald, managing partner and project manager. "Since we have something that is unique with the Wisconsin River and the Cambrian stone canyons on the same site, we have to work to preserve that feeling after the construction is complete." Additionally The Grand Cambrian Resort will feature a large variety of resort amenities, including a main dining room that will be a multi-level family restaurant. "The Loft", a glass enclosed porch style bar, will be perched atop the lobby looking out over the Wisconsin River. The resort will have an estimated 10,000 square feet of meeting space including a grand ballroom that takes advantage of the resort's natural beauty. Other plans at completion include over 50,000 square feet of indoor waterpark, outdoor waterpark, non-motorized river activities, spa, arcade, grocery and sweet shop. Add this to the resort's great location that allows guests to hide away on the lower dells but to reach downtown activities in just over a mile, and you have another success story coming from the Wisconsin Dells.

"Since early on when we just had proposed building plans, perspective unit drawings and pricing, we have received calls from Brokers saying they had very interested people. This is the time of year when people see the best of what the Wisconsin Dells has to offer and we are looking forward to selling units this summer so that guests make this their destination for a lifetime," said McDonald.

History of the Grand Cambrian Land

The 112 acres of The Grand Cambrian Resort was a commercial site for boat launching to the lower dells for the Captain Soma Boat Line from 1959 until 1985. Since then it has been used as personal property and storage for several area businesses. The owners of Cambrian Development, Ron Flock and Mac R. McDonald formed their partnership in September of 2005 with the intent of building a major project incorporating the river and the acres of woods as their main attraction. The Grand Cambrian is on the North East Corner of the city and directly adjacent to riding stables, go-karts, approximately 1 mile from the area's Drive-in Theater.
