Minister Raitt Commends Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada on Ratifying New Agreement

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/11/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) on ratifying a new collective agreement.

"I am pleased that AECL and PIPSC worked together to reach an agreement without resorting to a work stoppage," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations are crucial when facing current and emerging economic challenges."

The PIPSC represents a unit of approximately 60 professional engineering or scientific employees at the Whiteshell Laboratories in Pinawa, Manitoba. The new collective agreement is valid until June 30, 2014, and replaces the previous agreement, which expired on June 30, 2011.

The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
