SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/13/12 -- 'The Big Dream', a massive coat drive event hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, was held at Cheonggye Square in Seoul on October 13th from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to benefit the homeless and needy neighbors.

This was the first large scale event hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in collaboration with private organizations to help the homeless. The Big Issue Korea, a magazine promoting self-support for the homeless, designed and organized the event with other organizations, which are participating with pro-bono support.

Sanofi Pasteur sponsored 'The Big Dream' and its employees will serve the event as volunteers since the company is strongly committed to supporting the health and welfare of the homeless and vulnerable people in Korea. Also Good People International donated 20,000 pieces of clothing for the cause. Sanofi Pasteur, which conducted the free vaccination of 2,500 homeless people in Seoul last year, will continue to provide flu vaccines for the homeless this year.

A steady supply of fresh clothing is essential to the sanitary condition for the homeless, but there is always a shortage of clean clothes for Seoul's homeless people. According to Seoul Homeless Welfare Facilities Association, more than 25,000 pieces of clothing are needed per month for the 5,000 homeless people in the city, but only 6,500 pieces of clothing are being distributed.

Citizens participated in The Big Dream, including a number of celebrities. For example, members of 'Infinite Challenge', MBC's most popular entertainment show, donated clothes for this event. A fundraising activity was conducted onsite to support housing rent deposits for the homeless and a Samulnori percussion performance was held by the homeless. The Big Dream event finished with 'The Big Dream' concert.
