ATLANTA, Oct. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- When Progress Solar begins offering remote asset management functionality to its portable lighting customers later this year, it will put the freedom of alternative energy in a whole new light. The new options from ROAMWORKS USA will enable tighter control of solar- and wind-powered lighting towers — ensuring optimal reliability and efficiency, with reduced risk of theft.
In 2010, Progress Solar, a market leader in high-performance eco-friendly energy solutions, pioneered the Portable Solar Light Tower, a cleaner, quieter alternative to diesel-powered mobile lights. The product has been a hit with equipment rental companies and the U.S. military — two sectors where reliability is paramount to safe, successful operations.
"Solar power for remote on-site energy needs just makes sense and we're thrilled to work with such a pioneering company like Progress Solar", states Bill Lockwood, Vice President of Sales and Business Development at ROAMWORKS. "Customers can now take advantage of these alternative energy solutions by managing the voltage charge, intensity of light and output levels so maintenance or recharge plans can be assessed in real-time eliminating down-time."
Recognizing the advancements ROAMWORKS has made in the area of remote asset management and monitoring, Progress Solar will soon augment its product offering with several ROAMWORKS applications, including:
- Remote GPS, used to locate and track portable lighting units, collect remote performance data and detect theft;
- Voltage meter, which measures the amount of solar power and voltage being generated from the solar wings during the day, and compares this to the number of amp hours required throughout the night; and
- Lights on/off capabilities, including the ability to control lighting level on the fly.
Built from the ROAMWORKS' open platform, ROAM™ (Remote Operational Application Management), these new applications redefine the concept of "hands-free" asset management.
"The end users of our equipment are in construction, oil and gas, mining, utilities, sports and musical events security, disaster recovery and the military," explains Dan Robertson of Progress Solar. "Their work depends on having reliable lighting, and if everything isn't in working order, they need to know in advance. The monitoring capabilities we designed with the team at ROAMWORKS will give our customers the centralized control they need to more effectively manage and react to situations before they become problems." Robertson adds that the monitoring solutions also enhance peace of mind to customers new to solar- and wind-powered units.
Founded in 2000, ROAMWORKS sets a new standard in mobile and fixed asset tracking and monitoring. Drawing on decades of wireless experience — with particular emphasis in communications and messaging, software design for multi-level user interaction, distribution and logistics, facilities management, financial services, and data security — our engineers and executives have delivered revolutionary market applications now used in over 30 industries across the globe.
