According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, global MirrorLink smartphone sales will grow a robust 77 percent in 2013. MirrorLink technology connects your smartphone to your car. Nokia and Samsung are the main drivers of MirrorLink smartphone growth today, while Apple is a barrier to uptake.
Alex Spektor, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics, said, “MirrorLink technology connects your smartphone to your car. The rich content stored inside a consumer’s smartphone, such as maps and music, can be mirrored via MirrorLink connectivity onto the larger screen of a driver’s in-car dashboard head-unit. MirrorLink can improve usability and safety for car drivers and it can enhance entertainment choices for car passengers. We forecast global MirrorLink smartphone sales to grow a robust 77 percent in 2013, three times faster than the overall smartphone market growth rate of 23 percent. MirrorLink is a high-growth emerging technology.”
Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics, added, “Nokia and Samsung are the main smartphone brands driving MirrorLink penetration in smartphones worldwide today. Nokia already offers several Symbian models that support MirrorLink, while Samsung has recently added the technology to its wildly popular Galaxy S3 Android portfolio. However, Apple does not support MirrorLink in its iconic iPhone range and this remains a major barrier to success for the technology’s longer-term mass-market future.”
