LONDON, October 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Boots and M&S have come top of the list of retailers that shoppers most want to see in their ultimate high street or shopping centre.
As well these traditional favourites, the top ten list includes the rapidly expanding Apple Store (number 5).
It also includes, at number 7, the music and DVD retailer HMV which, despite closing 60 stores in 2011 amid "challenging trading conditions", clearly remains a favourite among members of the public.
There is also a strong showing for coffee shops, with both Costa and Starbucks making the top ten.
In the survey, commissioned by The Bentall Centre in Kingston-upon-Thames, 2,000 people were asked by leading independent research company OpinionMatters what they would need for their ultimate shopping experience.
Whilst the choice of shops was the most important factor, many (63.5%) also cited good transport links and parking facilities as important.
Robert Ritchie, centre director of The Bentall Centre, said "We are really pleased with the results of the survey that show that Kingston is still a really desirable shopping destination.
"For a regional destination like Kingston, being able to offer all the shops on the top ten list and many more is very encouraging."
Over 30 per cent of the people surveyed said they looked for good ambience in their shopping experience.
Others may prove a little harder to please. Two per cent of those surveyed said they would choose to go to a particular high street or shopping centre in order to "meet potential partners".
