OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/23/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) for ratifying a first collective agreement.
"I am very pleased that AECL and the PIPSC have reached an agreement without resorting to a work stoppage," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations are crucial when facing current and emerging economic challenges."
The unit is composed of approximately 80 technicians and technologists employed at the Whishell Laboratories located in Pinawa, Manitoba. The collective agreement is valid until June 30, 2014.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
